In the winter semester 2019/2020, the course of study Environmental Engineering (UIW) will be introduced at Leibniz University Hannover. The new course is the product of a restructuring of the courses offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy at LUH. In addition to the UIW, the master’s degree course in Civil Engineering is being set up at the same time. The new course replaces the two master''s programs "Structural Engineering" and "Water, Environmental, and Coastal Engineering".
The Environmental Engineering course offers three possible specializations: Environment, Water, and Energy. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy oversees the course, but other faculties with selected subjects are also represented in the course. The Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Architecture as well as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering should be mentioned here in particular.
All in all, this results in an attractive range of subjects with numerous optional modules. The major in Environmental Studies offers the widest range of topics and allows students a very sound and broad-based education in the field of environmental engineering. The major in Water reflects the strength of Leibniz University in water research. In the field of water, students experience an excellent education that is not possible at other universities in this form and depth. The third specialization, in Energy, is combined with a range of courses that teach in a variety of ways how close production and supply can be from an environmental point of view. A special focus here is the topic of renewable energies.
