The ISAH's Pentecost excursion 2023 took place on 30 and 31 May. More than 20 students from the civil and environmental studies programmes of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy set out with the Institute's team to visit highly interesting destinations in urban water management and waste management. The first stop was the Hildesheim sewage treatment plant, where we were able to view exciting conversion measures as well as learn more about the special features of a large Bio-P plant. Afterwards, we visited the water treatment plant of the Harzwasserwerke at the Granetal Dam and learned more about the challenges of extracting drinking water from dams. On the second day, the first topic was the recycling of old electrical appliances. The visit to the ElectroCycling company in Goslar impressively showed the effort that has to be made to recycle 150 t of electrical waste per day. The last stop was the waste incineration plant (EEW Energy from Waste) in Hannover-Lahe. The students were able to see how electricity and district heating are generated from waste and especially how waste incineration meets power plant technology. During the two days we had wonderful weather and the overnight stay in the youth hostel in Goslar enabled us to take a late tour of the historic old town on the evening of the first day. This made the ISAH's Pentecost excursion, which took place again this year for the first time after Corona, an unforgettable experience.
